WhatsApp Username

Last update:

WhatsApp Username is a unique identifier tied to your WhatsApp phone number. Once set, customers don't need to know your phone number, they can simply search for or enter your username to start a conversation with you directly. Each phone number can only have one username at a time.

Usernames are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis, so setting yours early helps ensure it isn't taken by another business or user.

How to Set Your WhatsApp Username

  1. Log in to the iSlash Platform

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Select Channels

  4. Choose the WhatsApp phone number you want to configure → WhatsApp Business Profile Settings

  5. Enter your desired name in the「Username」field

  6. Once the format meets the requirements, save it. You'll see a confirmation that your WhatsApp username has been reserved

💡 Tip: Use a username that matches your brand name or is easy to recognize, so customers can remember and search for it easily.

FAQs

FAQs

  1. Will my phone number still be visible after I set a username?

Once you set a username, anyone you message or call who hasn't saved your phone number as a contact will no longer see your phone number, they'll only see your username instead.

  • You can share your username (instead of your phone number) with customers, so they can reach you on WhatsApp

  • After setting a username, your phone number is removed from existing conversations with people who haven't saved it, though the conversation itself continues as normal

  • If someone has already saved your phone number, they'll continue to see their own saved contact name for you, along with your phone number, unaffected.

  1. How can customers reach me using my username?

If you'd rather not share your phone number, you can give customers your username instead so they can start a conversation with you. Keep in mind that WhatsApp does not offer a searchable directory of usernames, so customers need to know your exact username to find you.

  • Once a conversation starts, the other person will see your display name; if they haven't saved your phone number, it won't be shown.

  1. Can I change or delete my username?

Yes. Usernames are entirely optional, and you can change or delete yours at any time. Keep in mind that once you change or delete a username, it may become available for someone else to claim

  • If you delete your username, your phone number will become visible to others again

  1. Could my username already be in use by another business or individual?

Every username is unique. If someone try to set a username that's same with you, they'll see a message saying the「Username is not available.」
